The Uptown New York Project Is Not for the People Who Live Uptown

The Uptown New York Project being proposed by E.D.C. for East 125th to East l27” Street between Second & Third Avenue will have parking for 1,000 cars above and below grade and underground parking for 80 MTA buses. This will definitely be a health concern for the children at East Harlem who have the highest asthma hospitalization in the City.

The Uptown New York Project is a mixed use 1 billion dollar 3 million square foot development which will include 700,000 square feet at commercial space 1,500 housing units. The 700,000 square feet of commercial space to be used by such retailers as Wal-Mart will close the 99-cent stores and Mom & Pops stores will have to close. The 1,500 housing units will not be affordable for the people at East Harlem. The average price of a Manhattan apartment is 1.3 million dollar, the average sale price for a luxury apartment was 3.79 million dollar last year. Blacks and Latinos will not benefit in East Harlem with the Uptown New York Project.

We must protest and vote against the Uptown New York Project wanting to turn OUR community into their personal goldmine.

Thank you,
